2009 Rugby and Hockey Tour

2009 Rugby and Hockey Tour

BMGS Rugby held it’s first overseas tour to Great Britain in 1994. In 1997, the first tour to British Columbia was arranged and included a stop over in San Francisco. Tours to British Columbia have now been held in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. The tour for 2009 also included a girls Field Hockey team for the first time.
BMGS Rugby tours have visited schools around Vancouver area (Collingwood, West Vancouver, Aldergrove) along with schools on Vancouver Island (Shawnigan Lake, Brentwood and St Michael’s University School-2009). As well, the tour has travelled by coach and plane to Salmon Arm and Calgary area (1997).
Whilst the tour is about playing rugby, there have been many opportunities to socialise , visit museums and aquariums, ski (Whistler, Grouse Mountain), shop, golf, train, see spectacular mountains and rivers, raft, ferry and much, much more.

As well, we have hosted Collingwood, West Vancouver, Aldergrove, St Michael’s University and Salmon Arm on legs of their Australian Tours. In fact, we play Collingwood School on their tour in March with this being the 12th meeting between our 2 schools.
A trophy was donated a couple of tours ago and it is a highlight of both School’s tours to see who will win the trophy.
Overseas tours have brought the very best out of BMGS students.
Airline staff, parents of hosting schools, teachers, coach drivers and even many shop assistants have often dragged staff members aside to make very favourable comments about boys, their behaviour, dress and manners.
The coaching staff look forward to the tour of 2011.
